Our Story

Our Background

The Sierra Leone Paediatric and Neonatal Nurses Association (SLPNNA) was founded in response to the urgent need for specialised nursing care for children and newborns in Sierra Leone.

With the country facing some of the highest maternal and child mortality rates in the world, SLPNNA represents a critical step toward improving paediatric and neonatal health services — dedicated to enhancing nursing quality, supporting professional development, and advocating for the rights of children and newborns.

Recognising the vital role nurses play throughout the healthcare continuum, SLPNNA focuses on improving health outcomes through education, advocacy, and the promotion of best practices — serving as a collaborative platform for nurses to share knowledge and engage in ongoing professional growth.
